Personal Safety For Back To School

Everyone needs to think about being the victim of a crime in this unstable economy. Crime is on the rise in almost every city in the country and can happen to anyone at anytime in any place. People need to learn how to be proactive before they become a victim and not reactive because they are a victim.

While shopping inside it is a good idea to avoid dark hallways and stockrooms, especially at closing time. Be sure to only use bathrooms that are located in high traffic areas of the mall such as the food court.

Your Car – Do you make a point to lock your car doors and roll up the windows wherever you park, even if you’ll just be there for a minute? Do you make an effort to park in well-lit parking lots, and avoid walking to your car alone at night?

The first day went well as we rode 105 miles and all of us did equally well. We were tired and all us knew there’s no staying up late to watch tv. We had to start the next morning at 5 am so that we could keep on track with the mileage that we knew we had to do.

Using the “Buddy Rule” means that you’ll jog with a friend. This way, you’ll always have someone to look out for you, and vice versa. Whether you’re jogging alone or with a friend, you should always carry a cell phone and a personal alarm for children in case you need to call for help.

The same cannot be said about irritants like tear gas, though. Irritants rely more on pain infliction to be effective. Because sensitivity to pain may be greatly decreased in drugged aggressors, tear gas may or may not be effective in those dangerous situations. In other words, you will not be able to predict the outcome of your self defense attempt by using tear gas alone, because you will never know beforehand whether or not an adversary will be under the influence of drugs. Irritants (tear gas) will work mainly on non-drugged individuals.

Be alert: It’s easy to get into the “zone” while running. But try not to tune out the entire world! Be alert and aware. Take care to notice if anyone comes running up behind you, or if an oncoming driver appears not to notice you. Your senses and your judgment are the most valuable safety tool you carry.
